The two Rivers State sponsored football teams, Sharks and Dolphins may be merged to minimize cost. This is coming from the heels of the financial implication of maintaining two teams for a state.
The Rivers State government over the years is known to be sponsoring only Sharks football club as the only state owned team, before the government bought over Eagles Cement football club from its owner based on it success in the football industry, to be known as state own and sponsored football team.
Since then things had never been the same. Though the traditional Football Club of Port Harcourt, Rivers State had never won any major championship apart from it WAFU exploit since the team inception.
Dolphins after the Rivers State government bought the club over from it original owners had not fail to perform excellently.
Dolphins had won lots of championships, including the league and the FA cup. And had represented the country in CAF championships couple of times.
The emergence of the two club may not be associated with the poor run of Sharks last football season, rather, it is borne out of the burden of sponsoring two clubs.
While Dolphins is campaigning in the elite league, Sharks is to play in the lower division this football season due to its relegation last football season.
What The Newswriter sports could not tell the sports reading public is which club name is to be called the emergence of one club after emerging the two clubs. ###
