Degema Local Government council was badly maltreated in the just concluded Go-Round/Swan secondary school athletics championship 2016.
From day one of the screening exercise, the committee screened out even those who are qualified. The supervisory council for youths and sports, Hon. Benjamin Ebini-Diri started his fight from the very day the LGA arrived camp, as he filed in his first protest.
Luckily, the following day being Tuesday the official start of events of the championship, he was given the athletes earlier screened out from day one.
As if that was not enough, those screened to participate in the championship were screened as not qualified to participate after the athletes have won gold medal from the events they took part in.
Delga was again asked to file in another protest to contend the eligibility of their athletes with N10,000 naira (Ten Thousand naira). This simply means that the gold won by the athlete was not registered to Delga account.
The question The Newswriter sports is asking the screening committee or the technical committee of the championship is; why the technical committee in the first place allow the athletes to compete for the LGA to spend money without the technical committee feeling for the LGA. This is robbery.
Another funny habit of the welfare committee is compelling the athletes to eat what they are not used to.
A case in point, two girls would have lose their lives if not the able medical committee was solidly on ground to revive the girls who fainted after partaking in 800 metre race.
From investigation, it was confirmed that the two girls were served yam which they declined eating because they are not used to eating yam. And there was no alternative meal for breakfast. All these happened to same Delga LGA.
Delga was adjudged the 5th in the overall medal table, if there were no foul play the LGA would have been hopefully among the best three LGAs. ###
