RSG Affirms Women Empowerment

The Rivers State Government has affirmed the employment of Rivers women in a stakeholders’ meeting/workshop for women in political and leadership positions in Rivers State at the Multi-purpose Hall, Ministry of Women Affairs, Port Harcourt.
Hon. Kenneth Kobani, the SSG, represents Governor Wike at the occasion said, it is a clarion call for society to begin to recognize the role of women.
He also urged the women of Rivers State to demand for their rights saying; “this government must stand and back you.
He added that 60% of micro-finance soft loan must go to the women, tasking them to monitor the system of the loan the government is giving out to support and empower the Rivers women. “This government is ready to empower her entrepreneurs,” the Governor said.
On her part, the wife of the government, Hon. Justice Suzzette Nyesom Wike revealed that the main purpose of the forum is to deliberate on the salient issues that would accelerate the development of the female gender, make them more relevance in the scheme of things and ultimately achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“To provide an opportunity for women to speak out, discuss freely issues and problems negatively affecting women’s development economically, politically, socially and legally, Mrs. Wike said”.
The deputy governor of the state, Dr. Ipalibo Banigo Harry urged the women of Rivers State to know their worth and take responsibility as the state government is ready to empower them. Pleading with them to come out enmass to vote during the National and state Assembly re-run elections while urging the women to be actively involved in politics to have their voice in the scheme of things.###
