On Saturday the social and commercial activities were paralyzed in Bakana community in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State as gunmen invaded the town.
The armed gunmen stormed the community shortly after the victory rally organized by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the area. The rally was well attended by government functionaries, opinion leaders, politicians, student activists and several others.
When the gunmen stormed the town, they shot sporadically, while residents, scampered for safety.
Some residents and visitors who were running for their dear lives sustained injuries not from the gun shot. Our political correspondent who was in the community reported that there were no casualties. However, the gunmen held the community hostage unchallenged for more than thirty (30) minutes. ###
