The Amanyanabo of Bakana Community in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, HRH. O.O. Odum VIII has raised alarm over the threat of his life by some persons suspected to be members of the area.

Odum VIII who made this known while exchanging views with our reporters at his palace in Bakana on Monday, alleged that some persons who contested the kingship throne with him want him dead. He further alleged that on several occasions he has been receiving anonymous calls threatening to eliminate his life. According to him in one occasion the assassins trailed him to the Bakana creek, but God Almighty saved his life.

The king highlighted the various ways he fought gallantly to establish the dynasty of Odum stool in the Kalabari ethnic nationality. Odum VIII recalled that one of the failed contestants, Captain Ibani Braide rtd shot him during the kingship tussle between Willie Braide and Odum House.

The Bakana monarch wondered why Captain I.I Braide rtd is now fighting to sit on King Odum stool after committing a lot of atrocities against the stool.

The paramount ruler said that until Captain I.I. Braide rtd expelled from the Bakana Chiefs Council, he (Braide) paid Loyalty and allegiance to him anytime he comes to the villages. The Bakana king blasted I.I. Braide for parading himself as the Amanyanabo, adding that he (I.I. Braide) has been sacked by him serval years back for evil doing.

The royal father accused I.I. Braide of tarnishing his image and that of his children.

The Amanyanabo exonerated his sons from wrong doing, saying that his children are law-abiding and responsible.

Odum VIII maintained that none of his sons is a cultist that is out to cause confusion in the town. To prove that I have responsible children, one of my sons is the chairman of the Ijaw Youth Congress IYC, Kalabari chapter. So Captain I.I. Braide should stop calling my sons all sorts of names if not we shall meet in the appropriate quarters”

The King described I.I. Braide as a deceiver or someone that is not telling the truth, adding that sometime ago, he impersonated his coronation, which according to Odum VIII was capable of causing crisis in the area. He further recalled that, I.I. Braide went to Buguma to be installed in order to occupy the Odum stool, but he was rejected, because “they know that I am the true occupant of the stool and no one else.” Odum VIII advised I.I. Braide to stop deceiving the public, before it is too late for him. ###
