Nigeria’s luckiest soccer president Buhari has woken up from his dream to redeem his promise he made to the 1985 Golden Eaglets that won the maiden U-17 Coco-cola JVC junior world cup at China.
It would be recalled that president Buhari was the Head of State when the young lads from Nigeria won the maiden edition of the junior world cup. He made interesting prises for the young soccer heroes.
He was so particular in mentioning land, house and scholarship for the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria.
After 31 years, the lucky president Buhari has come back as civilian elected president to pilot the affairs of Nigeria, and again, the U-17 soccer team of Nigeria has again won him another 2015 junior world cup.
In his wisdom, Buhari said he will be paying each member of the 1985 Golden Eaglets that lifted the maiden edition of the World Cup for Nigeria when he was Nigeria head of State, 2 million each.
While the idea of redeeming his pledge to the soccer heroes is commendable, The Newswriter sports make bold to ask, will 2 million be adequate to all the promise made to the players like land, house and scholarship.
More importantly, some of the players of that heroic squad had died.
Some are now grand fathers, while some are coaches of National and premiership teams in Nigeria.
President Buhari should respect his age, person and do the needful, if he really wants to correct or fight corrupt to it end.
Giving 2 million each to the players means he is short changing them as 2 million could not cover his earlier promise. ###
