Like earthquake, the wind of change at the weekend blew across the length and breadth of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, when the members of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the LGA organized a thanksgiving service.
Thousands of APC faithful converged at Chief Horsfall square, Buguma to attend the thanksgiving service. The gubernatorial candidate of the APC in Rivers State in the April, 2015 election, Dr. Dakuku Peterside was also in attendance.
By the time the change wind subsided so many damages have been done to the People Democratic Party, (PDP) in the LGA. Some prominent members of the party (PDP) defected to the APC. Among them was HRH Chief Diamond Tobin-West, the Amanyanabo of Okpo town in the Asari-Toru Local Government Area. Tobin West who was a former Senior Special Adviser to ex-governor Peter Odili on political matters, decamped to the APC with several of his loyalists numbering over three hundred (300) across the thirteen wards of the LGA.
Our Asalga correspondent reported that Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside and other party chieftains received the decampees.
Meanwhile, the defection of HRH Tobin-West and several others has been attributed to the poor and unperforming leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the area.
One of the decampees, who identified himself as Comrade Tony Amachree from Ward 3, alleged that PDP has no structure in Asalga, expressing optimism that if the present leadership of PDP in the area continues, the party will soon be thrown into a trash can of history. ###
