In a tragic incident in Elele Community in Rivers State, a 9-year-old girl was raped and murdered by an unknown assailant. Our correspondent reported that the girl, Miracle, was abducted while she was running an errand for her mother. When she had not returned after some time, her mother alerted neighbours to keep a lookout if they see her. They then organised a search party among themselves but did not find her. The next morning, her body was found near her home. She was declared dead and there was blood around her nose, mouth and private parts. The Rivers Police have not commented about the murder yet, but neighbours have suggested that her rape and murder could have been part of a cult ritual. In a related development armed men on Monday abducted the Director of Centre for Continuing Education, Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt, Professor M.E. Ogburie. Prof. Ogburie was abducted by the gunmen in Elele axis of the state. The victim’s abduction occurred less than 72 hours after he buried his late father in his village. It was gathered that the kidnappers had contacted the professor’s family, but did not mention any amount as ransom. The Acting Vice Chancellor of RSUST, Professor Blessing Didia, also confirmed the abduction. The State Police Command is yet to comment on the incident. It was also revealed that Miracle’s older brother belongs to a cult group, and some believe that her abduction and murder could be part of a revenge plot by a rival cult group.
