Worried by poor leadership in the local government areas LGAs chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the ward chairmen have threatened to quit the party, for what they called, “marginalization of the highest order”.
This was made known to our correspondent by one of the ward chairmen in the Kalabari speaking LGA who pleaded anonymity.
He said that the ward PDP chairmen in their recent meeting held in Port Harcourt over the weekend resolved that, they would quit the party if certain issues concerning their welfare were not addressed.
According to the spokesperson of the aggrieved ward chairmen, the party in their respective LGAs lack credible leadership, adding that the political structures in many Local Government Areas have been collapsed.
He alleged that the stakeholders of the party do not carry them (ward chairmen) along in the scheme of things rendering the party impotent and dormant. The aggrieved ward chairmen told our correspondent that, on several occasions no one recognizes their position in the party as the ward chairmen, noting that they have been relegated to the background.
They vividly recalled that during the festive period, the Christmas and the New Year gifts by His Excellency Hon. Chief Barr. Nyesomn Ezenwo Wike did not get to them, saying that everything was done elsewhere without their consent and knowledge.
They sent a passionate appealed to the governor to use his good office to remedy the anomalies before it gets out of hands. They also called on Hon. Felix Obuah, the Rivers PDP not to treat the issue raised with glove hands.
The angry ward chairmen maintained that nothing will keep them in the party if the issues remain unaddressed in the next twenty-one (21) days or else they will pull out of the PDP.
However, the ward PDP chairman did not tell our correspondent whether they are moving to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or not.
“We have not decided which political party to join. But certainly, if nothing is done, we will; go to a party of our choice,” one of the party chairmen asserted.
They had earlier lampooned the party leadership at the LGAs for ineffectiveness and lack of vision.
Political pundits observed that if the looming crisis is not handle properly and the ward chairmen eventually defects to another registered political party, it will do the PDP much damage especially at this time the state is preparing for re-election. ###
