The lingering crisis in Kula community in the Akuku-Toru Local government in Rivers State takes a fresh dimension on Monday as passengers speed boat was allegedly attacked.
The said passengers’ boat was travelling to Kula from Abonnema community when the attackers struck. This weekly gathered that the passengers were attacked in the presence of the military men.
This was made known to this publication by the Concerned Kula Youths during a protest in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
The spokesman of the youths, Comrade Glad Ibigoni alleged that the passengers’ boat was attacked by one Mr. Kenneth Dan and his boys. Comrade Ibigoni said that during the attack, some of the perceived enemies of Mr. Hope and Kenneth Dan were furiously beaten. He lamented that Mr. Similer James and Albot Selete were wounded when Mr. Kenneth Dan and his boys attacked the passengers speed boat.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the protest, Comrade Ibigoni observed that companies operating in the area are no longer dealing with the leadership of the community, but the two brothers (Hope and Kenneth).
The protesting Kula youths accused the Commander, 2nd Brigade the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Brigadier General Stevenson Olabanji and one Major Mustapha collecting bribes from Hope and his younger brother, Kenneth and allow them to perpetrate their evil deeds in the Kula community.
“Hope and Kenneth bribe the soldiers on monthly basis. That is why the Brigadier Commander is protecting them. This is how military and Boko Haram menace are starting.
“Soldiers are trained to protect lives and property, but in Kula territories, the army are only helping Hope and Kenneth to chase out legally constituted executive members by the Amanyanabo of Kula kingdom, KM King Dr. Kroma Amabibi Eleki, Sara XIV to oversee the satellite communities in the area. What the soldiers are doing is to back the two brothers of the same parents”, the youths said.
The protesting youths, however angrily asked rheritorically: Are the two brothers Hope and Kenneth bigger than the community?, adding that “when people rise against the injustice the soldier are doing they will call the youths of Kula community all sorts of names. Comrade Ibigoni alleged that the two brothers are also involved secretly in illegal bunkering, cutting of oil pipeline with their boys and killing fishes with dangerous chemical”, saying that if this ungodly acts are condemn, the two brothers (Hope and Kenneth) will use the soldiers against us. Because of this nobody talks in Kula community”.
The youths advised the soldiers to stop identifying with Hope and Kenneth, noting that, Hope has never been installed as a chief in the history of Kula community.
“After all Mr. Hope Dan was appointed CLO in OIS company in 2003 in the name of Kula community. Also his younger brother, Kenneth was appointed the chairman of Robort Kiri, still in the name of Kula town in 2003/2004. Today, they are stupidly claiming Opukula; the angry Kula youths said.
The bribe taking military officers should known that Elem Kalabari is the same as Bakana, Abonnema and Buguma, Hope should not use his selfish interest to cause crisis in the Kula kingdom.
They accused Hope and Kenneth of using political power to destroy the community, because the soldiers are collecting bribes from them to fight against the people of the community.
“Is there any town where two (2) kings are existing? Mr. Hope Dan should stop parading himself as the Amanyanabo of Opukula.
What he is doing is to cause mayhem in the community. Hope has never contested an ex-officio in Kula town”, Comrade Ibigoni asserted.
They maintained that on several fora Mr. Hope Dan is boasting that he gave Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike N20m during a campaign, saying that whatever he (Hope) does the governor will support him and come to his rescue.
Earlier, the protesting youths told newsmen that, the two brothers (Hope and Kenneth) are threatening to kill and burn down the community, “as a result of this threats the residents of the people are living in perpetual fear.
“Let us state here that Hope and Kenneth do not ever have a thatch house in Kula, they are still living in their father’s house’ the protesting youth asserted.
The youths recalled why Hope and Kenneth are boasting because when Wike visited the Kula community during his campaign the self styled Chief (Hope) received him in an “Ede room” and gave the governor, “Ebu” to wear. The governor should ask his deputy, Ipalibo Banigo the meaning of Ede room, where India and George clothes were used to decorate a room. It give a wrong signal in Kalabari kingdom”, Comrade Ibigoni said.
In conclusion the youths asked: who are the people the soldiers are still protecting in Ekulama 1? Are they protecting Kula people or the cultists hired by Kenneth and Hope Dan”?
They pointed out the soldiers should know that the authentic exco list is with the security agents in Abonnema and Obuama. The army should tell us the secret behind their reasons of protecting Mr. Hope and Kenneth Dan.
