It is now a law for Trailer drivers to apply the flyovers of Rivers State motor roads.
This directive was made in a stakeholders meeting on how to curb road accident and safety awareness in the yuletide season, organized by the Rivers State Ministry of Transport on Monday at the Ministry of Justice Conference Hall, Port Harcourt.
Papers were presented by resource persons in all sectors connected to transport, and it was resolved that there should be no phone calls when driving hence defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted by the Rivers State government.
For trailer drivers, they are banned to apply all the flyover of the state as any defaulter will e made to face the wrath of the law.
Residents of the state are advised to be conscious of preventing accident on the roads in this yuletide.
Trailer drivers were also advised to check their plugs and appliances before going to work.
Alcoholic content of any form too is banned from all motor parks, passengers too are cautioned to behave responsible to safety laws so as to avoid accident on the roads.
Speaking to the press, chairman of the occasion, the Permanent Secretary of SSG’s office, who also represented the SSG, Hon. Kenneth Kobani, Dr. George Nweke said, all road users are potential teachers of safety so can caution an erring driver or call an erring driver to order.
He advised all and sundry to obey road signs. On her part the permanent secretary of Rivers State Ministry of Transport, Mrs. Stella Ebere Wigwe, said henceforth the Ministry on behalf of Rivers State government has banned alcoholic in all motor parks. She has on behalf of the Ministry of Transport provided world standard road signs to be placed usually at all the flyovers in the state.###
