Kidnappers and armed robbers have renewed attack on both private and commercial vehicles plying the Emohua/Kalabari road.
Despite the presence of heavy armed security officers on the said road, robbers and suspected abductors attack passengers’ vehicles last Tuesday. According to an eye witness the driver of the vehicle maneuvered his way and escaped without recording any casualty. On Wednesday last week the criminals also struck close to the Israel-Ama junction along the Emohua/Kalabari road.
While swearing in the Caretaker Committee Chairmen of the twenty-two (22) local government areas, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike cautioned them against security lapses.
The governor expressed deep concern about the high wave of robbery and kidnapping in the state. Shortly after they had sworn-in, the (3) CTC chairmen of the three (3) Kalabari speaking local government areas of Degema, Asari-Toru and Akuku-Toru met and advanced solutions to the heinous activities on the Emohua/Kalabari road. One visible thing they (CTC chairmen) did was to provide Joint Security Force to station on the road.
The Emohua/Kalabari road has been a flash point for kidnapping, robbery, raping and other social vices.
Barely one month ago, the former Adviser to Governor Wike on Media and Publicity, Opunabo Inko-Tariah was attacked on the said road. His vehicle was smeared, however, he escaped. Prior to that time a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, His Royal Highness Chief Diamond Tobia West was shot on the Anyakwau Bridge along the Emohua/Kalabari road.
Precisely, on the 20th Sept, 2015 two pastors from the African Church namely: Ven. J.B.J Lawson and Ven. Isobo were abducted and spent over eleven (11) days in the den of the kidnappers.
Now that the festive period is fast approaching, some indigenes of the Kalabari kingdom are calling on the CTC chairmen and the relevant agencies to beef up security on the said road so as to reduce the activities of kidnappers and armed robbers. ###
