Wike Commences Rehabilitation Of Public Schools In Rivers

Nyesom-WikeRivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has announced the formal commencement of total rehabilitation of public secondary schools in Rivers State in a phased programme targeted at reviving decayed infrastructure in the schools.
The governor announced the commencement of the rehabilitation of the schools when he inspected commencement of work at Government Girls Secondary School, Rumuokuta in Obio /Akpor Local Government Area on Saturday.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality of internal roads being constructed at Government Girls Secondary School, Rumuokuta in Obio /Akpor, stating the facilities in the schools will create a right learning environment in the institutions .
The schools being rehabilitated include: 1. Birabi memorial grammar school Bori 2. Govt. Comprehensive Secondary School. PH 3. Government Secondary School. Ubima. 4. Government. Secondary School Rumuokwuta Ph. 5. Govt. Sec. Schl. Isiokpo. 6. Kalabari National College, Buguma. 7. Maria High Schl. Bane, Khana LGA. 8. Nyemoni Grammar School, Abonnema. 9. Okrika Grammar Schl. Okrika. 10. Western Ahoada County High School 11. Govt Sec Sch, Okaki
Governor Wike assured the people of the state that he will reintroduce boarding schools with up to date facilities to improve the standard of education in the state.
He regretted the dilapidated state of facilities in most schools in the state, saying that his administration will select pilot schools across the state for upgrade as model schools.
Wike stated that the rehabilitation of the schools will include upgrade of the laboratories, libraries, classrooms, hostels and other academic facilities.
The governor added that internal roads in the schools will be constructed and the environmental aesthetics of the schools developed.
He said: “We are developing model boarding schools across the state. Our intention is to develop a standard system that will enhance learning for our children.
“The development of model boarding schools will be done in phases within the limit of the state’s resources. In all the schools , we shall have standard laboratories, libraries , proper fences for security of students and comfortable classrooms”.
The governor pointed out that phased rehabilitation of the public secondary schools in the state covers all the three senatorial districts of the state.
