Police To Collaborate Youths On Crime Reduction

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police CP Musa Kimo has said the Rivers State Police Command will collaborate with National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Rivers chapter to bring crime to the barest minimum in the state.

The Commissioner made the remark in a meeting with the NYCN Rivers State chapter at the Police officers Mess Port Harcourt.

CP Kimo maintained that the interaction with the youths of Rivers State will bring the desired results in reducing crime rate in the state noting that youths are proper channel to share and distribute information especially at their various localities to fish out criminal elements in the state.

Kimo stated that if youths in the state can voluntary give information to the police it will go a long way to reduce crime rate in the state.

Earlier, the chairman (NYCN), Rivers State chapter Comrade Sukubo had thanked the Police Commissioner for the opportunity and promised to used his wealth of experience to drive a peaceful co-existence with the police while appealing to CP Kimo to appoint a youth representative to be a member of the Police Community Relations Committee in the state.

Comrade Sukubo stated that the partnership will open another window of working relationship saying they will not abuse the process, while appealing to the police not to divulge those who give them information as a matter of security and protection.

Also speaking, the secretary of the NYCN Barr. Prince Barine Yale stated that the stakeholders meeting were to foster peace and synergy with the police to fight crime to a stand still and to encourage a cordial relationship between the youth council and the police.

He said there will be a constant free flow of information between the police and the youth saying all the youth leaders at the various LGAs will work with their DPOs, while advising the youths to be law abiding and shun quick money that will put them in trouble.

The secretary recalled that he was a barber for years before he studied law pointing out that name is better than silver and gold.

However, the Commissioner of Police Rivers State Command, Kimo has granted the request of NYCN, by naming the chairman of National Youth Council, Comrade Sukubo as a member of PCRC Rivers State toportray sign of mutual understanding and friendship. ###
