Between the year 1967 and 1970, the Nigerian nation was thrown into confusion as a result of civil disturbances. What led to the said civil uprising was as a result of some problems confronting the people of this country. The problems include: corruption, godfatherism, discrimination, ethnicity favouritism and other social vices.
Also a section of the country like the Eastern region felt that it cannot stay together with larger Nigerian society. Having the mind that the amalgamation of the Southern and Northern Nigeria by Sir Lord Fredrick Luggard was the greatest mistake the white racist sad done to Nigeria.
Late Chief Emeka Odumegwu Ojuku led the Igbos to fight against Nigerian nation to create a separate country for himself known as Biafra.
The war lasted for 30 months which claimed several lives and properties.
The rest of the country under the leadership of Dr. Yakubu Gowon fought to ensure that the country remains one.
Of recent several desperate groups within the Igbo speaking region sprang up to resurrect the already dead Biafra Republic.
At the weekend one Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, the Director of Radio Biafra was nabbed by the Department of State Security Service.
His detention sparked off protest in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
The pro-Biafra agitators numbering 3,000 march round on the streets of Port Harcourt singing war songs and pulling down Nigeria flags.
It was unfortunate such protest took place in a non-Biafran State.
Rivers people are not Biafrans, but true and law abiding Nigerians. Rivers State is one of the federating or component units that made up Nigeria as a nation. The pro-Biafra agitators should keep away from Rivers territory because we do not share the same political ideology(ies) with the Ojukwu’s vision of Biafran State.
Any Igbo man who thinks that he can actualize Biafran state in this time of Nigeria political development, such person is building a castle in the air. ###
