The much anticipated Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter Henry Kalio 5-Aside Soccer Tournament will be played on the 6th to 12th of December, 2015 at No. 1 Field Bende Street.
According to the organizing committee, forms are out in Independent Monitor Office No. 26 Ikwerre Road, Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt and Garden City Radio 89.9fm.
Media Houses are advised to pick their forms for registration with N2,000.00 (two thousand naira only) at the designated centres.
Addressing an emergency SWAN meeting, chairman of the chapter, Honour Sirawoo advised every media House, particularly sports writers to take the tournament serious.
He also gave reason why the ace sports caster was to be immortalized through a 5-Aside trophy. He said, the tournament will be an annual event.
To make it easy for all media Houses interested to participate, the local organizing committee has directed that, where any media house interested to participate could not raise a team to prosecute the tournament, but is interested to participate have the priviledge to join with another media house to raise a team, particularly print media houses.
Sponsors to the tournament are wanted as interesting prize will be given to deserving winners of different categories of awards.
For instance, highest goal scorer, best behaved team, most valuable player and most disciplined player.
It would be recalled that Henry Kalio was the chairman of the state chapter of SWAN and was also the sports presenter of 93:7fm, he lived sports, eats sports, sleep sports, walk sports and died sports.
Hence, in his wisdom, the outgoing chairman of SWAN Rivers State chapter thought it wise to immortalize the late sports caster and chairman of SWAN with a soccer tournament. ###
