The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) on Monday began its week long conference in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
The theme of the conference tagged “Combating Acute and Chronic Health Challenges: The Medical Laboratory as a critical tool”.
Speaking at the event, the national president of the group, Alhaji Toyosi Y. Raheem stressed the importance of Laboratory Scientists in the development of Medical profession. He further emphasized the need of accessible, affordable and available laboratories at the nooks and crannies of the country.
Alhaji Raheem said that his association has keyed into the federal government’s policy on prevention of strikes in the health sector and the implementation of the National Health Act 2014.
In his key note address, Prof. Oluwafeani Oguntibeju recalled that the laboratory work which is diagnostic started 300BC ago, adding that efficient laboratory practice can help in the treatment of acute and chronic diseases such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes and malaria. ###
