Impeccable sources had informed this weekly that if all things being equal, the Caretaker Committee Chairmen and their members in the twenty-two (22) local government of Rivers State will be kicked out before the close of next week. The current serving CTC chairmen and their members came on board precisely on 9th day of July, 2015. Thus on the 9th of October, 2015 they must have served their mandatory three (3) months in office.
Information reaching our political desk had it that, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike might call for a fresh nomination of CTC members from the various LGAs.
Reports revealed that fears now griped most of the council helms men as their tenure comes to a closed.
Some of the CTC chairmen in their three (3) months stay in office has caused untold hardship to the people residing at the grassroots. They fail to empower the teeming supporters of the governor in their respective council areas.
In some local government councils staff have not being paid, while in other LGAs no visible developmental projects have being sited or executed. Now with the end of the tenure at sight, siphoning of council funds has begun. The incoming CTC Chairmen and members may inherit empty council confers.
Development analyst who spoke with out political reporter frowned at the non-challant attitude of some of the council chairmen for not implementing projects that will put smiles on the faces of the rural dwellers.
“I give kudos to the executive governor of Rivers State, within three (3) months in office he executed projects that have direct impact on the lives of the Rivers people. Hence, three (3) months is enough for the CTC chairmen and members to do something tangible for the local people,” the development analyst said.
Barely, a month ago, the governor during a stakeholders meeting in Government House, slammed some of the CTC chairmen for not initiating programs and policies that would fast track development at the rural communities. We gathered that sequel to this development, the governor is not happy the way and the manner in which the councils are being managed.
However, reliable sources informed this publication that some CTC chairmen will be retained especially those who performed well to the satisfaction of the governor.
A political pundit who stressed the importance of local government administration in the development of the rural communities, appealed to the governor to appoint credible politicians that will mount the saddle of the local councils in order to bring effective transformation and domestic economy viability in the rural areas.
“Unequivocally, local government system is indispensable in every nation that operates federal system of government. Because the local councils provide social amenities and development facilities at the grassroots. Therefore any CTC chairman who lacks the administrative ability to ignite programmes that will uplift the standards of living at the grassroots has no business in the administrative affairs of the third-tier government,” the political pundit concluded.
Meanwhile, series of protests are going on in most of the local government areas due to the high handedness of the CTC Chairmen and members.
Information made available by the Federal Ministry of Finance revealed that the Rivers Councils, had received seven billion two hundred and twenty-one million, six hundred and forty-three thousand eighty-nine naira and four kobo (N7, 221, 643, 890.04) as Sept allocation and to be shared among the CTC Chairmen and their members.###
