Okparaji Calls For Peace As Nigeria Marks Independence

The Chairman of Eleme Local Government Council Bar. Philip Okparaji said Nigeria need peace and stability for rapid development. The Chairman made the remark at the end of a two day workshop on local government system in Nigeria with the theme: Local Government system in Nigeria, Capacity Building, Good governance and work Ethics organized by the Ministry of Local Government Affairs Rivers State at Sasun Hotel, Port Harcourt.

Bar. Okparaji stated that as Nigeria celebrate the 55th Independence Anniversary, there should be sober reflection and a change of heart by all for social transformation. He said his local government is doing everything possible to promote peace and development by engaging the youths in skills so that youth restiveness will be reduced.

On the workshop, the Eleme Boss maintained that the workshop was an eye opener as a lot of issues were discussed to transform the Local Government Areas.

Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief O.C.J. Okocha (SAN) stated that the training becomes necessary to strengthen the LGA system to proffer solutions to the challenges facing the grassroot development.

In an interview shortly after the occasion the overall Award Winner of the LGA the Chairman of Ahoada West said he dedicated the award to the new vision of Chief Bar. Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, saying, the award is for hard-work and commitment.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Bonny LGA Hon. Jumbo Afie, in an interview with journalists said the workshop will be very useful for the leaders and staff of the various Ward who attended the workshop.

One of the Resource persons at the occasion Donibo Allen Briggs stated that the WA been an appendages of those at the top and created by the mercy of the people by status may be scrap, noting that Nigeria is over-govern and call for the scrapping of the state government as the system of government practiced by the British.

He stated that no local government Chairman can challenge the governor who put him on account of Revenue if not such chairman will be removed, “the only way Nigeria will survive is to scrap the state government” he said.

The secretary to the state governor Bar. Kenneth Kobani represented the governor of Rivers State Bar. Nyesom Wike at the event. ###
