The once known community in perpetual darkness, Iko-Nta in the Eastern-Obolo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has now been electrified with full operational capacity to liberate the people from the dangers associated with darkness, as small scale business could now thrive in the area.
National acting chairman of the People Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus told the mammoth crowd at the burial commendation service in honour of late Sir Athenasius Paul Offiom last weekend that the government of Akwa Ibom state had to embark on the electrification of Iko-Nta within the shortest period in honour of the late Anglican icon, Peace Ambasssador and grand father of the immediate past deputy governor of Rivers State, Engr. Tele Ikuru.
According to Secondus, when he met with the executive governor of Akwa Ibom State, he informed him of his visiting the community of Iko-Nta, alerted him of the difficulties faced by the people occasion on darkness.
The PDP chieftain disclosed that the Akwa Ibom State governor without delay ordered for the electrification of the community.
Secondus was speaking in response to the request of the Archdeacon of Ikot Abasi Archdeaconry of the Anglican Communion who appealed to the national chairman to collaborate with the government to come to the aid of the church and the community in the area of extension of electrification to Obianga and Lagos communities, as well as the hosting of the forthcoming 2015 synod.
On the request for the hosting of synodist in the days ahead, Prince Secondus had on behalf of the children and grandchildren of the late Offiom donated a water vessel for the evangelical work in the Archdeaconry, while encouraging the clergies to intensify spread of the gospel of Christ to all nooks and crannies of the Akwa Ibom State.
Meanwhile, Sir Athenasius Paul Offiom had since been laid to rest in his compound at Iko-Nta community with numerous dignitaries at the event, include the immediate past Rivers State deputy governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, former Caretaker chairman Eastern Obolo LGA. Dr. Okworo, clergymen amongst others. ###
