Kalongii Allstars football club of Port Harcourt has lifted the first ever, Hon. Aye Atamah Pepple sponsored one day independence old Port Harcourt township football tournament community shield trophy.
The tournament was played between the champions of 2013 and 2014 editions, Port Harcourt international Allstars and Kalongii Allstars football club of Port Harcourt, at Port Harcourt club football pitch. Last Saturday, where Kalongii outwit Port Harcourt Allstars football club, the winners of the maiden edition of the 1 day independence old Port Harcourt township 2013 edition 4-3.
The goals came through each half of the game. Kalongii scored first in the first half while Allstars of Port Harcourt struggled to levelled up scores at the dying minutes of the second half, which resulted into three penalty kicks either side to determine a winner.
While Kalongii Allstars scored all their 3 kicks, Port Harcourt Allstars scored only 2 kicks, from the 3 kicks hence the game reads Kalongii 4, Allstars of Port Harcourt 3.
With this result, Kalongii has become the first overall champions of Hon. Aye Atamah Pepple 1 day independence Day old Port Harcourt township community shield trophy.
The goalkeeper of Port Harcourt Allstars, Snowye George, 58years, was adjudged the most valuable player of the community shield tournament.
Medals were presented to both clubs with their trophies accordingly as they won. This same trophy will be played next year according to the sponsor, Atamah Pepple, to identify a clear winner or overall winner between all the winners in the previous editions, starting from the maiden edition to date.
As an annual tournament, this year’s edition comes up 1st of October, 2015 at No. 1 Field , Bende Street, old Port Harcourt township.
According to the sponsor, 8 Allstars teams have registered to participate in this year’s edition, including new entrant Bonny Allstars football club of Bonny.
Hon. Aye Atamah Pepple, the sponsor of the tournament said, it is his special way of bringing friends together to further cement and foster good relationship amongst old friends on the game.
He personally presented the trophies and medals to the players. ###
