Entrepreneurship: Major Factor In Moving The Church, Nation Forward– Glory

Reducing the nation’s level of poverty, ending unemployment challenges, making maximum profits as well as gaining greater sense of fulfillment on earth has been identified as some of the major reasons for entrepreneurship otherwise called or known as private business ownership and investment.

Dr. Glory Amadi of the Department of Educational Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, University of Port Harcourt made the revelations last weekend as a resource person in one of the schools at the Civil Centre, Port Harcourt, Venue of the just concluded 30th Annual Diocesan Sunday School Conference organized by the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Diocese of Niger Delta.

Despite the inspiring and torching theme of the five days conference “The Seven Churches” with sub-themes, “The faith of our fathers and Never Again”, the conference equally composes about 19 schools running concurrently viz: Schools of Career Development, Christlikeness, Eschatology, Growing in Grace, Habits and Destructive Vices, Human Rights, Intercessors, Investment and Growing Your Business, Keeping and Building Your Ministry, Marriage, Personal Quiet Time and Family Altar, Potentials, Praise and Music, Single Christians, Sword of the Spirit; Taming the Tongue, Teaching; Administration and Planning as well as School of Health.

Dr. Amadi who was the resource person in the school of Investment and Growing business while stressing the importance of Entrepreneurship dismissed the notion that one must obtain a degree in business administration before running a successful private business and posited that initial interest, vigour, passion and inborn skill are pre-requisite facts for anyone to become an entrepreneur while further training are added advantages.

The erudite lecturer who maintained that every individual or organization is naturally predisposed to certain kind of business investment, also revealed that lack of awareness has hampered and frustrated many, while discouraging the conferees especially those who believed business is meant for a set of people in the society, but professes individual endowments or talents as the truth and basic requirements for different business enterprises.

While challenging conferees to inculcate a change attitude of creating jobs and investments, Dr. Amadi identified risk, uncertain and irregular incomes, long hours of working, and self decision as reasons why many may avoid venturing into personal businesses.

He further proposes self boss, choice of business, creativity and profit making as reasons why one may desire a private business.

It would be recalled that Dr. Amadi who first spoke on entrepreneurship at the Diocese an Synod held at St. Paul’s Church Opobo town between April and May 2015, has reawaken the culture and awareness of the Diocese and her faithful on the need to create job opportunity to reduce unemployment as well as remaining vibrant to the things of God. ###
