The Rivers State Governor Chief Nyesom Wike said the people’s forum organized by the Rivers State government was to interact with the people and to enumerate his achievements and programme in the past 100 days in office.
Gov. Wike stated this at a one day People’s forum on Saturday at the Dr. Obi Wali International conference centre, in Port Harcourt.
He said he needs the people’s support to achieve more as he expressed hope that his governments will consolidate on the achievement recorded so far and to continue to bring more development to the state despite the election tribunal challenging his victory.
The governor expressed joy that in the past 100 days his administration has done much to restore public confidence in governance.
He maintained that as the judiciary and the court are working. “We have also restored the dignity of traditional rulers, paying of salaries of both workers and pensioners allowances and the opening of the State House of Assembly”.
Wike explained that so far, 49 roads projects have been launched with about 30 out of the 52 streets earmarked for rehabilitation completed; noting that the N30 billion naira borrowed has been fully utilized.
He told stakeholders that Rivers State government is yet to receive the bail out money from the federal government while expressing hope that peace and security in the state will lead to the creation of employment of youths.
To improve on the present security situation in the state, Gov. Wike said he has concluded arrangement to deliver two surveillance helicopters purchased by the Amaechi administration which will arrive soonest.
On the issue of youths employment the governor explained that commercial agriculture will be vigorously pursue to create more jobs in the state, especially skills acquisition and vocational training as water in the rural areas will also be given special attention especially in Gokana, Akulga and Khana LGA.
Earlier, the chairman of the occasion and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Barinua Wifa said the event was participatory.
In his speech, the Secretary to the State Government, Kenneth Kobani stated that the Wike’s government has done more in the 100days in office.
In an interview with journalists, the Head of Service, Barr. Godwin Rufus state that Gov. Wike has performed creditably well in the 100 days in office in the areas of road rehabilitation, construction of low cost Housing, payment of salaries of workers and allowances of pensioners, payment of Sharks and Dolphins players among others and called on the Rivers people to support him to do more. ###
