Fakae Ends Tenure With Thanksgiving Service

The outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Prof. Barineme Fakae has ended his tenure with a thanksgiving service.

The thanksgiving service which marks the successful end of the tenure was organized by the management and staff of the State-owned University, including friends, relations and the business community of the institution.

Prof. Fakae thanked God over the weekend for making him successful pilot of the affairs of the University for the past seven years.

In his remark at the Chapel of Redemption, Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Prof. Fakae narrated how he became Rector of the then Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori, now named after a renowned environmentalist, Ken Saro Wiwa and his subsequent appointment as Acting Vice- Chancellor of RSUST in 2007 by the former Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, which he was later appointed as substantive.

The outgoing Vice-Chancellor told the congregation that the success of the institution did not depend on him alone, but by all those who share the vision of the University, hence they were able to transform the university into an enviable institution.

The former Vice-Chancellor stated that their success depended on the support of the stakeholders including the administration of Chief Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike whom he served briefly before the end of his tenure.

Prof. Fakae tasked both the incoming Vice-Chancellor and the University community to build on the legacy, high moral and educational standard of the University and warned against the era of strikes and cultism that crippled the University in the past.

He maintained that RSUST staff are one of the highest paid in the country which was achieved through negotiations and high public relations and not strike while begging for forgiveness, especially those he stepped on the toes during his tenure.

Earlier, the chairman of the Planning Committee, Prof. D. M. Fubara thanked Prof. Fakae for all the achievements by the University saying he was part of those that established the university. ###
