Acid Bath: Man In Court Over False Information

Men of the Rivers State Police Command have dragged Thomas Chikwenjo Ohochukwu to a Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt over what the police described as false information which was contained in a petition to the State Commissioner of Police by the accused person against Lawrence Ndukuegbulam Mmon.

In the petition, the accused person said Ndukuegbulam Mmon did kidnapped and poured acid on him and members of his family.

Upon his trial, the accused person pleaded not guilty to a one count charge of false information leveled against him.

The charge with PMC/612c/2015 said, “That you Thomas Chikwejo Ohochukwu ‘m’ at Moscow Road Port HARCOURT IN THE Port Harcourt Magisterial District did make a false information through the means of petition to the commissioner of police Rivers State alleging one Lawrence Ndukuegbulam Mmon of kidnapping and inflicting injurious harm by acid bath on you and your family which caused the commissioner of police to carry out his lawful duty as a person employed by the public service which led to the arrest and detention of the above named person, an action which he ought not to have taken and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 125A(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol. 11, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.

The accused was remanded in prison custody as the prosecutor, inspector Wilson Isaiah opposed to the bail application of his counsel.

Chief Magistrate I.F Iyiabo Esq. however adjourned the case to August 13, 2015 for consideration of bail. ###
