The replicate of what occurred before the ex-governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi left the Brick House in May 29, 2015, the latest information revealed that some councils’ official properties including vehicles have been vandalized. Like the adage which says “like Father like son, Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike on assumption of office publicly accused the past administration led by Amaechi of looting Rivers State government’s properties in the Government House.
Information had it that many LGAs Secretariats have been turned upside down by some faceless “looters” suspected to be Amaechi’s aides and loyalists.
Recently some government vehicles carted away illegally were discovered.
As the new caretaker committee chairmen resumed office last week, reports reaching our news room had it that councils properties belonging to some LGAs were stolen and some destroyed.
The thieves cannot be identified as at the time of filing in this report, but sources attributed the evil acts to the outgone illegal local government chairmen installed by Amaechi.
In Eleme Local Government Area, the CTC chairman, Hon. Philip lamented that most of the council official properties have been destroyed by the past chairman and his cohorts.
In Degema LGA, the ex-chairman, Sogbeye Eli locked his office and went away with the keys. Impeccable sources also informed this weekly that some of the council properties are missing. A politician in the LGA lampooned Mr. Eli, observed that his action was childish and laughable.
In one of the LGAs in the Orashi region, we gathered that human faeces were found in almost all the offices in the council secretariat. Beside this abnormality in that LGA matchets were used to vandalize doors of the offices.
The Asari-Toru Local Government Council Secretariat, the past administration destroyed council properties. While addressing stakeholders of Asalga at the weekend, the CTC chairman, Chief Odiari Princewill said that as he resumed office he has not sighted any of the official vehicles, adding that a lot of council properties were vandalized. He described the action as “act of wickedness”. A stakeholder called for the arrest and prosecution of those behind the ugly act.
Chief Princewill, however called on the people of he area to be clam and assured them of initiating laudable policies and programmes that will put smiles on their faces.
Meanwhile, information reaching our newsroom revealed that, the CTC chairmen met empty treasuries in their respective LGAs. This development affects the council administration in the past few days.
According to an aide to one of the CTC chairmen, his boss find it difficult to settle down as a result of non-availability of fund, vandalization of his office, and looting of council properties. ###
