Cultism/Kidnapping: Rivers CP In Fresh Crisis

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers Police Command, Mr. Chris Ezike is now having a sleepless night as cultism, kidnapping, killings, armed robbery and other social vices have taken over the state.

The CP in his maiden address, promised to deal decisively with miscreants terrorizing the state.

His words, “As I perused the handover notes from my predecessor, it was easily noticeable that tread and pattern of serious crimes in the state have become worrisome to the citizens”.

“Specifically kidnapping and armed cultism have been on the increase, consequently the focus of my leadership shall be to reverse the trend and halt the drift.”

Our crime correspondent reports that crime is on the increase in the state in the past few weeks, cultism has taken charge in every part of the state. Killing, kidnapping, and fighting have become the order of the day. The CP is in the state of dilemma because he does not know what to do.

Last week the former Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, Hon. Ejor lost his beloved wife to faceless killers. At the weekend there was sporadic shooting at Abuloma axis of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.

Gunmen invaded Agbonchia market area, Eleme Local Government of Rivers State over the weekend, killing no fewer than 8 persons.

However, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, who confirmed the incident said only five people died, adding that those behind the attack were currently cooling their heels in the police net.

According to him, the killers stormed a place around the market, where people were washing motorcycles and opened fire on those in sight.

Muhammad said, “The assailants came on motorcycles, opened fire at a motorcycles wash point at Agbonchia Eleme and fled. Five persons lost their lives.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the attack was related to cult activities. One suspect is right now undergoing interrogation, while moves to arrest other fleeing miscreants have begun.”

Witnesses said the assailants pretended as if they wanted to wash their bikes.

“Suddenly, they started shooting at those around and when they were done, they jumped on their bike and fled,” one of the eyewitnesses told newsmen shortly after the incident.

It appears that with the recent increase in the wave of cultism, the CP and his men are confused.

This may have negative impact on the economy of the state as investors will run out of Rivers State to establish their business elsewhere which may not go down well with the people of the state.   ###
