The Rivers state Government has concluded plans to attract the attention of football fans to the state.
To achieve this, the State Governor, Nyesom Wike said the state was ready to host some international matches in the month of July.
Wike has however inaugurated an organising committee headed by the former Sports Commissioner in the state, Boma Iyaye to sort out modalities to set the stage for some matches to be played in Rivers state.
Speaking while inaugurating the committee at Government House in Port Harcourt, Wike said hosting the matches would promote the state as a safe place for Sports and businesses.
The governor said the state would continue to play host to important national and international events to “dispel false information peddled by political opponents”.
In his words,“The approval of the hosting of the matches in Port Harcourt by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is an indication of the confidence the football body has in the state.
“We must ensure that the matches are successful and played under a secured atmosphere,” he said.
While charging the committee to commence work immediately, the Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike to decide on the stadium to be used for the matches between the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt and the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Omagwa.
