As part of effort to ensure high level of clean environment and restore the city of Port Harcourt to its past glory as the best clean city in the federation a total number of twenty tricycles (Keke Napep) have been commissioned by the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA).
Presenting them to the operators during this month’s environmental sanitation exercise in Port Harcourt., Bro. Felix Obuah the sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency disclosed that the tricycles (Keke Napep) would be used for monitoring sanitation exercise as part of the effort of the Rivers State government under the leadership of Barr. Nyesom Wike to restore Port Harcourt to its garden City.
According to him, prior to the present administration there were heaps of waste littered across Port Harcourt especially in creek road market, Mile three market, Rumuokoro, Azikiwe, Ikokwu, Rumuola axis among others but now such waste has been reduced drastically due to the effort of the present administration, expressing optimism that it will be totality rid off in the city of Port Harcourt.
He expressed dismay over non performance of the service providers in the past pointing out that anyone who did not meet up with the present administration rating or perform below expectation will be sacked.
Chief Obuah however, enjoined service providers in Port Harcourt who are interested as contractors in the agency to apply.
On the insinuation making round the city of Port Harcourt that he was employing only those who are Peoples Democratic Party, PDP faithful as contractors, and workers of the agency, Chief Obuah debunked the insinuation stressing that the job is open to everyone irrespective of party affiliation.
On the arresting of defaulters of the environmental sanitation exercise, Bro. Obuah said the agency was not interested to arrest defaulters of the sanitation exercise for now rather to educate the public on how to clean their environment.
Bro. Obuah, however, pardoned 89 defaulters who were arrested for committing different offences including; loitering, conveying of commuters by bus drivers and refuse to participate in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
According to him, “We should temper justice with mercy on those who defaulted in the environmental sanitation exercise, but I am not saying that they should not clean their environmental, today is a day of grace. We should ensure that all hands are on deck to clean Rivers State”. ###
