The Governor of Rivers State, Chief (Barr.) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has solicited the support of Rivers Workers.
Governor Wike made the request during a meeting with the workers at the State Secretariat, Port Harcourt.
He said, ”the Government can’t move forward without the support of the Civil Servants”.
The Governor also directed the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports to pay in full the backlog of salaries of the sportsmen and women in the State.
He therefore pledged to pay the salaries of Civil Servants to ameliorate their plight.
Governor Wike debunked the rumour of sacking over 300 workers at the Rivers State Polytechnic saying, that he only stopped the process of their on-going recruitment which started immediately after he was declared winner in April, 2015.
The Governor further directed the Head of Service, Mr. Samuel LongJohn to put the Secretariat in good shape as nothing appears to be working.
In addition, the Governor queries the Labour Union for not protecting the workers interest rather than taking sides.
Also, Governor Wike took a swipe at the previous Government for owing salaries of workers and ensure while claiming to have kept behind seven billion Naira.
The Governor promised not to victimize the people that gave him the mandate and ordered the payment of two months arrears to the Pensioners.
