Activist Commends Rivers Assembly Over Election Of Ibani As Speaker

An international Civil Society activist and a pro-democracy crusader, Comr. Emmanuel Nkweke “Aka” Mr. Vote Count” has commended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for electing Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Ibani as the speaker of the 8th Assembly of Rivers State.

Comr. Emmanuel Nkweke made the commendation while in a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday.

Comr. Nkweke frowned that no woman was elected as member of the 8th State House of Assembly unlike in the previous Assembly, knowing fairly well that the public would complain about the 35% affirmative action.

Comr. Nkweke, however said that the present Rivers House of Assembly members should ensure the constant collaboration with the civil society organization in Rivers State hence the beauty of every democracy government is the full participation of civil society organizations, adding that the speaker of the House of Assembly from the information gathered since he merged as Speaker of the 8th Assembly are convinced that on his ability to make the Assembly the most friendly lawmaking chamber in Nigeria advised that he should not allow personal emotion cloud his parliamentary ability.

He commended members of the House for given Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike the power to dissolve the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC and the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission.

Nkweke, however assured that the civil society organization is ready to partner with the office of the speaker to move the state forward.

He also appealed to the speaker not to exclude the opinion of those who elected him in making decisions rather he should seek their advice.

Nkweke also advised Governor Nyesom Wike to fulfill his electioneering promises he made to the people of the state. ###
