Worried by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agitation that President Muhammadu Buhari should intervene in the case of the 19 APC lawmakers in Ekiti State move to impeach the incumbent governor of the State, Ayodele Fayose, a Chief in Rivers State, HRH Chief Owabie Tobin, the Eze Onumini I of Port Harcourt has urged Muhammadu Buhari to keep clear from such impeachment saga.
The Peoples Democratic Party leadership led by Prince Uche Secondus at a one day retreat in Port Harcourt called on President Muhammadu Buhari on behalf of the party to intervene in the planned impeachment by 19 Ekiti State lawmakers.
Reacting, HRH Chief Owabie Tobin who recalled the crisis that rocked Ekiti State including the illegal impeachment of the Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly by seven lawmakers out of 27 lawmakers that made up the Assembly which is against the constitution during the last dispensation of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s administration noted that Ex-President Jonathan refused to intervene in the matter.
According to him, during President Jonathan’s administration, the PDP leadership collaborated with the law enforcement agencies to prevent Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the then Rivers State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, Rabi Kwakwanso of Kano State and other APC Chieftains from participating in the APC grand finale campaign rally in Ekiti State in 2014, describing Peoples Democratic Party, PDP leadership complain as crying fowl and urged Buhari not to take part in such intervention, rather should concentrate on way to improve the lives of Nigerians as well as restore the past glory of the nation.
The Royal Father who commended Nigerians for voting Buhari to power and for the successful transition ceremony in Abuja which ushered in the present administration appealed to Buhari to fulfill his campaign promises such as regular power supply, ensuring that Nigeria currency will be compared to dollars. Improvement of Nigerians’ lives, good roads among others, expressed optimism that he will justify the confidence reposed on him.
On the Peoples Democratic Party members’ complaint that Buhari did not said anything on the EFCC withdrawal of charges against Timipre Sylva, the former governor of Bayelsa State, the royal father who recalled that Sylva’s case started during ex-President Jonathan’s administration stressed that Buhari could not comment on the matter, because he does not know the detail of the matter and chose to be neutral on the issue.
On why the Festus Keyamo, the lawyer of the PDP withdrawn from the case, the royal father noted that the legal practitioner withdrawn because he found out that Sylva was innocent of the charges against him.
Chief Owabie advised Chief Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State to consolidate on former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi laudable projects, especially the Monorail which he described as a project to decongest traffic and fulfill his campaign promises including building of schools, road network, employment, ensure security, improve the lives of Rivers people within the period of his administration.
He further adviced Wike not to challenge Amaechi who was his former boss, stressing that “one should not bite the fingers that fed him as Amaechi brought him to limelight”, Chief Owabie who recalled Justice Daisy Okocha’s statement during a prayer session at the Port Harcourt High Court complex after being sworn in as the Acting Chief Judge of Rivers State by Governor Nyesom Wike that she will ensure discipline in the Rivers State Judiciary, carry everyone along irrespective of the parties affiliation among other urged him to fulfill her promises.
On Chief Nyesom Wike’s threat that he will dissolve the local government administration in Rivers State, the royal father who faulted his plan described the recent local government election conducted across the state as most peaceful and transparent unlike the previous elections when the Peoples Democratic Party were involve appeal to Buhari to intervene and disallowed Wike from his plan.
