The New Rivers State side draws Rivers Angels football club of Port Harcourt in a novelty football match in honour of Rivers State Governor-elect, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike at Sharks Stadium, 2-2.
The novelty football match was part of the governor-elect transition/ inauguration programme. It was fun as Rivers Angels dazzled the stars of yesterday in football artistry.
Some of the prominent names that featured at the New Rivers State side were Adokiye Amiesimieka, Austin Opara, Senator Lee Maeba, Sergeant Awuse and others.
Nigeria Golden boy, Kanu Nwankwo also played for the New Rivers Side alongside with Kelechi Nworgu, Boma Iyaye, Aribotonye Okiri which lifted the spirit of the game in the 2nd half.
The governor –elect, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike arrived Sharks Stadium exactly 11:17am, with spotting Jersey No. 7 Ronaldo inscribed on his back.
The Rivers Angels side were vibrant at goal but could come out with two goals in the first half as four penals were awarded to the New Rivers State side from first half to second half of the game, it was in the second half that the encounter changed its gear as the array of stars paraded by the Rivers State side led by Kanu Nwankwo alongside, Kelechi Nworgu, Boma Iyaye, Adokiye Amiesemeka, Aribotonye Okiri when Kanu Nwankwo used his usual nature to supplied killer tailored, passes, combined with skills to match the youthful energetic Rivers Angels side to the admiration of the spectators and his fans.
Kelechi Nworgu scored the New Rivers State side first goal in the second half and complemented by Austine Opara in spotting Jersey No. 14 through penalty that was actually the forth penalty awarded to the New Rivers State side.
The game came to an end with the final scores reading, Rivers Angels 2, and the New Rivers State side 2.
Adokiye Amiesemeka was adjudged the most valuable player, and was handed over the MVP trophy.
Former Governor of Rivers State, Sir. Celestine Omehia presented the trophy. The shark stadium was jam packed as it was full to the brim. Notable personalities graced the ceremony. ###
