Police Kill 3 Robbers In Port Harcourt

A team of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Rivers State Police Command on Sunday shot dead three suspected armed robbers in the state.

The suspects were killed on at about 7p.m, when they allegedly engaged the police in a gun duel along East West road in the state capital.

It was gathered that the gang had earlier snatched a Toyota Camry car belonging to Mr. David Nwoka along Obiri Ikwerre axis in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmad Muhammad, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), said the anti-robbery squad acted on a distress call from Nwoka.

Muhammad stated that the gang snatched the car at gunpoint and headed towards Port Harcourt, but the police in a swift action, pursued and engaged the hoodlums in a shoot-out during which three of the suspected armed robbers were fatally wounded.

Items recovered from the gang included the snatched vehicle, one AK 47 rifle, 10 rounds of 7.62 ammunition, one pump action gun and 11 cartridges.

The PPRO said: “The vehicle has since been handed over to the owner, Mr. David Nwoka, who expressed his appreciation to police for the quick response to his distress call that led to the recovery of his vehicle.”
