Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, has urged the incoming Federal Government to probe the role of the police and the army in the last general elections in the state.
Amaechi made the appeal on Sunday at the Greater Together Campaign Organisation (GTCO) of All Progressives Congress (APC) special thanksgiving service to celebrate God’s faithfulness throughout the electioneering period in the state held at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre, Port Harcourt.
He alleged that the police, army, militants and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were used to rob APC of victory and cause electoral irregularities in the state.
Also, he requested that the police commission should discipline police officers indicted in the electoral crisis in the state, “whether they were promoted and transferred out of the state or not.”
“Let us ask the Federal Government to investigate the crisis in Rivers State. Army should be investigated because they participated in the general elections,” Amaechi said.
The state governor expressed gratitude to God for saving him from the outgoing Federal Government, through the victory of the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari.
“Why do I have to thank God? For our lives! He answered our prayers by making Buhari the president. Imagine if Buhari did not win? Just sleep and wake up and imagine that Buhari did not win, what would have happened?
“Imagine that Buhari did not win, they wouldn’t let us enter this hall, even though we are still in government. They won’t let us.
“They were already preparing for me. They have left instructions at all the airports not to let me have access to move. They had seized my red passport. They gave me my red passport only two days ago (Friday), signed on April 28 after the elections.
“They did not know we would win. But, God answered our prayers.
“Even if we don’t get anything, we have the respite of God. God answered our prayers to save us. God also answered our prayers to save Nigeria. I am not joking; we had nobody anywhere in Rivers State,” he said.
In his testimony, the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, said there were more guns than voters in the last general elections in the state.
