Towering expectations of the pro-governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s supporters in clinching the exalted Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF have hit the brick wall following the decision of the Central Working Committee, CWC of the incoming ruling All Progressives Congress in retaining the zoning formular already in operation.
The zoning formular gives edge to the North-Central zone to produce the Senate President, an indication that the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives now goes to the South –West while the SGF will be retained in the South-East Zone of the country.
Earlier, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara Stsate has appealed to the National leadership of the party to retain the zoning arrangement which zoned the senate president to the North-central.
Last Tuesday, Ilorin, the state capital of Kwara State was agog as the State Working Committee of APC resolved to pursue what they consider as their privilege opportunity because they recorded one hundred percent victory for the party in the just concluded elections.
To show concerned, the Kwara State Working Committee of the APC in a communiqué issued at the end of their state meeting had expressed gratitude to its National Working Committee for deeming it crucial to abide by the zoning arrangement which equally favours the North Central.
APC in Kwara State also organized prayers for the actualization of one of her hopeful, Dr. Bukola Saraki to preside over the eight (8th) senate.
Similarly, the South-Eastern extraction has advocated for the nomination of the former governor of old Abia State, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu as the most qualified for the job of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF.
This was sequel to the promise of the President-Elect Muhammadu Buhari that he would not discriminate the Igbos adding that he would grant the request of the zonal leaders.
Leaders of the South-Eastern zone of the APC had in meeting with the President-elect penultimate week demanded for the position of SGF and speaker of the lower house.
Fears have already engulfed the minute supporters of the outgoing governor of Rivers State, Amaechi who are employed only for propaganda and boasting business other than anything reality.
Their job is continuous boasting of how Governor Amaechi would bag the Secretary to the Government of the Federation or the lofty Minister of Petroleum.
The uncertainty trailing the guess work of the Amaechi’s supporters in Rivers suggest that all is not well with the position earmarked for the governor who had not only put in his time, energy in rubbishing the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration but was also accused of looting Rivers’ treasury for the General Buharis campaign.
It would be recalled that the present zoning arrangement was structured by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to ensure fairness, equity and justice to all federating units or zones of the country.
The South-West house leadership as put in place by the PDP was, however, thwarted by the outgoing speaker and governor-elect of Sokoto State, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal and his co plotters when they struck the House and took over the position.
As the South-West region regains their lost privilege now, the South-South, particularly in the APC would be left with no other option than to have a ministerial or ambassadorial nomination.
