In furtherance to its service to God and humanity, the Rotary Club International District 9140, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has taken her community health outreach to the people of Elelenwo Community in Obio/Akpor LGA of the State.
The outreach which witnessed the distribution of over 600 TCP disinfectants and 500 pieces of treated mosquito nets to participants also provided an avenue for people to check their blood pressure, sugar level and other health related matters.
Addressing participants at Eheleze Civic Centre, Elelenwo on the 30th of April, 2015 the Golden President of Rotary Club District 9140, Port Harcourt, Rtn. Frank Eni said the programme was designed to address some of the health challenges that most people are facing in communities.
He maintained that doctors and other health personnel were brought in to examine the health condition of those that were to be attended to, proscribed drugs and give professional advice, if necessary. Eni noted that the outreach at Elelenwo Community was one the numerous visits to communities in the state by Rotary Club to meet with some of the needs of the people.
While thanking Dr. Patrick Ohia and Dr. Frank Onwuka for bringing personnel and equipments for the success of the event, Rtn. Eni further urged the participants not sale any of the items that were freely given to them. He used the medium to call on Nigerians, corporate organizations, Non Governmental organizations, NGOs, to support the good gesture of Rotary International in their own ways, for the good of the people of Nigeria.
The duo of Rotarian Georgiana Ngeri-Nwagha, Assistant Governor, District 9140 and Rtn. Dr. Onwuka of District 9140 educated the participants on the reason for the outreach and some vital health tips to them, while Mrs. Ngeri-Nwagha stressed on the need for adequate breast feeding of babies by nursing mothers.
Meanwhile, Rtn. Ijeoma Pearl Okoro, the incoming District Governor 2015-2016 of District 9140, Nigeria advised participants, particularly mothers, to make judicious use of the programme and items given to them.
Mrs. Okoro who admitted that a still need to be done in the area of assisting the masses and called on other well meaning Nigerians to join Rotary Club in their humanitarian services.
However, Chief Boniface N. Wodi JP, chairman, Eheleze Community and Chief Ehoro, secretary Elelenwo Council of Traditional Rulers, commended Rotary Club for humanitarian gesture, pointing out that the outreach has provided them with opportunity of knowing their blood pressure as well as their sugar level which they did not know before the programme and promised that the people will make good use of the items given to them by Rotary Club. ####
