Comrade Bekuru John Lemue alias Johnbull has decried marginalization of the Ogoni people in everything, said it is time the Ogoni people be remembered for their suffering.
Lemue who spoke to The Newswriter over the weekend, recalled how the Ogonis have been marginalized during the regime of Gen. Sani Abacha, when creation of state for two consecutive time was done, yet nothing was given to the Ogonis for their suffering having seen the untold hardship in the area because of environmental factor.
Comr. Lemue who further recalled that for 16 years of democracy in Nigeria, the Ogoni people have only tasted ministerial position for once and that is the dramatic appointment of Kenneth Kobani, adding that as we know that Ogoniland has been a major contributor to oil production in Nigeria since 1958, yet we have been rewarded with devastated environment, our fishing and farming traditional occupation have gone into extinct.
Lemue who reacted bitterly on the UNEP report said after the federal government sponsored UNEP report on Ogoni soil, no remedial effort has been made to address the damage outline in the report despite the promise of the Late President Yar’Adua government to implement the content unconditionally.
His words, “As Ogonis, we are pained that our water, plants etc are destroyed, nothing has been done to that effect. As deprived people, we will continually place in the domain of all government, the Ogoni Bill of Rights that seeks for equal representation of ongoing in the affairs of the nation.
Lemue who urged the president –Elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari not to let the cry of the Ogonis fall on deaf ears to do something about the UNEP report as he promised Ogoni people during his campaign rally in Ogoniland.
Lemue who also comment on the way and manner in which politicians use their constituencies funds for personal comfort pointed out that constituency money is not for individual consumption, it is meant for a community project, the money should be use for the purpose which it is earmark for. ###
