Rivers FA Proposes LGA Football League

The Rivers State Football Association is proposing to establish football league for the 23 Local Government Councils of Rivers State.

Disclosing this to sport journalists in Port Harcourt, the vice chairman of the state FA, Chief Omini Okile, said, the league will be in two group format where the 23 LGAs will be shared into the two group, whoever that emerges from the groups will play the final in Port Harcourt.

Though, a date has not been fix, he said this is not the regular common Super league or champions league.

He therefore call on the multinational and the corperation organizations to do well to assist the good football gesture of the Rivers football Association.

According to him, the FA is expecting individuals and the organized labour to throw their weight in supporting the gesture to make football survive in the state, as the FA has a low financial drive since it is not a money making venture.

Rivers State could be described as den of potential footballers that needed to be discovered for the future.

Chief Kile said, great stars like Richard Owobokiri, Finidi George, Taribo West and Peter Rufai were all discovered from the grassroot in Port Harcourt from smaller clubs.

He therefore appeal to all people of goodwill to support the Rivers FA to discover the future stars like Kelechi Ihenacheo. ###
