Fire Outbreak Engulfs Shell’s Kolo Creek

The fire incident is coming barely five days after an oil leak from Shell’s Kolo Creek Manifold.

A fire incident has engulfed the Kolo Creek-Rumekpe pipeline operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in Oruma, Ogbia Local Government Area in Bayelsa State

Our correspondent who visited the site on Monday reports that the fire was burning along the pipeline right of way with thick smoke heading into the sky.

SPDC’s Spokesman Joseph Obari said in a telephone interview that the oil firm was investigating the cause of the fire and will issue a statement after the investigations.

Officials of the Bayelsa Ministry of Environment have visited for an on–the-spot assessment.
