Inferno: Rivers NLC Loses N60m Property

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, has declared that it lost property estimated at N60 million to a fire incident that razed its secretariat.
This is even as a war of words ensued between the embattled Chairman of the congress in the state, Chris Oruge and the acting chairman, Williams Addah, who accused each other of masterminding the attack.
The administrative block of the secretariat was burnt down in the inferno that also destroyed documents, books, personal effects and office furniture, of the acting chairman.
It was gathered that an explosion rocked the office at about 4a.m. leading to the fire.
Briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt on the current happenings in the state council of the NLC, the acting chairman, Addah, expressed surprise that Oruge, went on air to accuse him falsely without proof.
Comrade Addah said misunderstanding between him and Oruge had not degenerated to where somebody could take the law into his hands.
“I am a very peaceful man, and have not at any time taken the law into my hands,” he stressed.
Addah expressed fears that with the NLC election slated for April 23, the next leadership of the congress might have nowhere to operate from.
He appealed to workers in the state to remain calm; assuring that the matter would be followed to its logical conclusion.
