Editorial :No Winner, No Vanquish

The presidential election is over and winner has emerged. He is General Mohammadu Buhari of All Progressives Congress. (APC).

He defeated the incumbent President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The activities of the March 28, 2015 Presidential/National Assembly elections shown that the political participation in Nigeria is increasing.

While the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was yet to declare the result, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan conceded defeat and felicitated with the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

The action of the president was highly commendable. Some thought that, Nigeria as a nation will brake into pieces after INEC declares result, but the peaceful nature of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan had proved them wrong.

The President places the cooperate existence of the nation above personal ambition. It would be recalled that in 2011, when Buhari lost to President Jonathan there was massive killing and destruction in the country, especially at the northern part. The attitude expressed by Gen. Buhari at then was crude, rude, uncivilized and undemocratic.

That is the reason while we are applauding President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for placing the affairs of the nation above his personal interest. The President is indeed a good leader. Thus no one or political party should see Buhari’s victory as personal or for APC, but the entire nations. But no victor, no vanquish. ###
