The 2015 presidential election has come and gone and a winner emerged in person of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Buhari defeated President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with total votes of 15,424,921. However, the president pulled 12,857,152. Thus President Jonathan has accepted his defeat and congratulated the President-elect, Gen. Buhari.
Before the March 28, presidential election, some ex-militants in Niger Delta geopolitical region threatened to cause war if President Jonathan losses. Prominent among the ex-militants who issued the war threats are: Alhaji Muhajid Asari-Dokubo, the leader of the Niger Delta People Volunteer Force (NDFVF) and Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo. The leader of the Niger Delta Vigilantee, High Chief Ateke Tom has been canvassing supports and votes for President Goodluck Jonathan.
Of recent on the streets of Warri, Delta State, Asari threatened to cause mayhem if Buhari rejects the outcome of the presidential election.
Asari said that it shall be gun for gun, bullet for bullet, bomb for bomb should the APC presidential candidate, Gen. Buhari attempt to cause chaos after losing the election.
Information reaching our newsdesk on Wednesday had it that some frontline ex-militants in the Niger Delta including Asari-Dokubo, Tompolo and Ateke met shortly after the announcement of the presidential election which declared Buhari, as the President-elect.
According to reliable information the ex-militants met in an undisclosed hotel in Bayelsa.
The essence of the meeting is not known as at the time of going to the press, but sources attributed it to the outcome of the presidential election results.
During the meeting, our sources revealed that the ex-militants were aggrieved about the election results. They described the results as the conspiracy between the north and Prof. Jega, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
They warned Gen. Buhari, the President-elect that any attempt to Islamize the country, will not go down well with the nation.
The ex-militants said that in the next couples of days, they shall come out with their position and view about the just concluded presidential election. ###
