The General Overseer of Temple Rebuilders Ministry, Pastor Barnabas Otoibhi has called on Nigerians not to cast their votes for politicians who defected from their political party to another party.
Barnabas revealed defection was a sign of unfaithfulness and indiscipline, maintaining that it was wrong for politicians to defect while still clinging unto office they won on the platform of another party.
The cleric, Pastor Barnabas said this in an interactive session with pastors and candidates of political parties over the weekend.
The fearless cleric further called on the National Assembly to amend the constitution such that any political office holder that wishes to defect before the end of his or her tenure must be made to resign.
He said, “The National Assembly should amend Section 68 of the 1999 Constitution to make “resignation from office” a pre-requisite for defection because some fraudulent politicians exploit lapses in the constitution to evade what the law of conscience expects them to do. This will check the wave of defection by elected political office holders from one political party to another.
“Political parties should not sponsor unfaithful politicians, especially defectors, as their candidates in election because confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like trying to chew with a lose tooth or walk with a cripple foot.
The electorate should not vote for politicians who are unfaithful or lack integrity and accountability, especially if they defected with the mandate from another party, because they are driven by self-interest and unpatriotic spirit, which makes them unreliable.
