Political Killings: Speak Jonathan Speak – Group

GoodLuck-Jonathan1.view_.com_.ng_The International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to speak out on the spate of political violence in Rivers State.

The group’s chancellor, Dr. Jackson Omenazu, expressed worry that Jonathan had yet to condemn the continued attacks on campaign rallies by political thugs in some parts of the state.

Omenazu, who spoke with newsmen in Port Harcourt, said the President was supposed to have ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, to fish out those behind the attacks.

According to him, Boko Haram insurgency became a menace in the country because the Federal Government initially failed to tackle it.

Omenazu said, “I had expected the Presidency to condemn the spate of violence in Rivers State and then give a marching order to the IGP to fish out the culprit for prosecution.

“This was how Boko Haram grew to a level that has become an embarrassment to the country. The President initially handled Boko Haram with kid’s gloves and now, it has become a problem of international dimension.

“Now, no official from the President has condemned the violence perpetrated by political thugs in Rivers State let alone calling for the arrest and prosecution of those behind it.”

He, however, blamed the crisis rocking the state judiciary on the highhandedness of the Federal Government.

Omenazu said, “It is high time the Federal Government allowed the Rivers State judiciary to work. We are tired of this grandstanding.”
