Alleged Security Threat: Rivers Police Warn PDP

The Rivers State Police Command has warned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state to desist from dragging the police into the politics of the state.

The Police Command also cautioned the PDP to stop playing politics with security issues.

The command issued the warning following the allegation raised by the PDP that the All Progressives Congress was planning to use the a security outfit to eliminate its key members.

The Media Director of the Nyesom Wike Campaign Organisation, Emma Okah at a media briefing in Port Harcourt said the Rivers state government and the APC planned to use the Security outfit, the C4I to robe the PDP into crimes they did not commit.

Okah said: “We have uncovered a heinous and shameful conspiracy by the Rivers State government, the APC and the C4I to arm some young men who would thereafter be arrested, armed with the very weapon given to them, by the APC and the C41.

“After their arrest, false confessions will be taken from them in consonants with the orchestrated plan to the effect that the youths were armed by the President of Nigeria and the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Rivers state, Nyesom Wike,” he said.

The PDP in Rivers state further called on the Inspector General of Police to disband the Security outfit, C4I.

Meanwhile, in a swift response to the allegation, the Police through a statement signed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Dan Bature described the C4I as a professional security outfit.

CP Bature noted that the C4I which had the best plethora of well-trained officers cannot be compromised by any political party, adding that C4I is managed and controlled by Senior officer within the Command in Rivers state.

According to the statement, “The Rivers State Police Command is constrained to respond to allegations against C4I, an operational outfit of the Command by Bar. Emma Okah, Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee, Rivers State People Democratic Party Campaign (PDP) Organisation, to the effect that C4I in concert with another political party planned ‘to abduct, assassinate or frame and arrest leaders of the PDP in Rivers State and to generally orchestrate political violence, chaos and anarchy in Rivers State’.

“It is on record that C4I is a well-trained operational unit of the Command established since 2007 specifically to tackle the rising wave of violent crimes in the State.

“The unit is under the strict control and supervision of the Command’s Directorate of Operations and has recorded colossal successes in crime prevention and fighting in the State, particularly in terms of rescue of kidnapped victims, arrest of suspected vicious criminals, recovery of firearms/ammunition, stolen vehicles, illicit drugs and narcotics, feats which stands the unit out.

“As a matter of fact, the Command as a responsible law enforcement agency or any of its units has no plan whatsoever to abduct, assassinate or frame and arrest leaders or members of any political party in Rivers State or to orchestrate political violence, chaos and anarchy in the State. Therefore, there is no iota of truth in the allegations

“The Commissioner of Police until now is not aware of the allegations. However, he has ordered for in-depth investigation on the allegations, please”.
