The people of Abalama community in the Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State have rejected the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming general elections ranging from councillorship to the presidential elections.
The community made this known when thousands of indigenes including Chiefs staged a protest match to the palace of the Amadabo, His Royal Highness Atikinson Big Tom Tom. This weekly learnt that last week the APC governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside paid a courtesy visit to the Amadabo of Abalama during his door to door campaign to Asari-Toru Local Government Area and the ruler of the town endorsed the APC in the forthcoming election without consulting with his people. This incident brought about ripples within concern members of the community.
Speaking during the protest, the chairman of the Abalama Council of Chiefs, Chief Daye Benjamin Dappa expressed that it is shocking their ruler would endorsed a politician without even consulting with his kinsmen. He reaffirmed the total support of Abalama community to the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2015 general election, stressing that President Goodluck Jonathan has performed fabulously compared to former leaders of the country and as such deserves a second tenure to consolidate on his transformation agenda. He declared that the people of Abalama are 99% for Jonathan and Nyesom Wike.
On his part a frontline politician and staunch supporter of the GEJ/Wike election, Alabo Okorinama George Kelly declared that no other party except the PDP will win Abalama because Abalama is a PDP community due to the infrastructural development they have benefited from the Goodluck administration and the only way to say thank you to him will be to give their votes to him to consolidate. The political guru tongue lashed the Amaechi led administration, stating that they did not impact on the lives of the community members. He cited numerous projects that have been expected in the community from the federal government, some of which include: the new state of the art secondary school that has just been completed, water project, transformers etc and asked rherorically; why PDP does not deserve their votes.
Also speaking, the youth leader of the community, Comrade Awodienye B. Iyalla declared that the youths are for PDP and no comment from anybody will stop it.
But reacting to the allegations the Amadabo of Abalama community, His Royal Highness Atekinson Big Tom Tom denied endorsing any politician because he is not a politician. He explained that when the APC visited him at his palace is only the almighty God that appoints a leader, but did not endorse Dakuku. He also used the medium to pledge his total support for Goodluck Jonathan and Wike.
Also at Abalama, the candidate representing the Asari-Toru Constituency II, Enemi Alabo George as part of his campaign promises given 300 students in Asari-Toru constituency II Scholarship to write the forthcoming Secondary School examination. He said this is to encourage his people to see education as a light. He promises to make it an annual event.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with this medium thanked him and prayed God to make him wisdom and knowledge as he moves to the Rivers State House of Assembly. ###
