Doctors under the auspices of the Nigerian Medical Association, Rivers State chapter have raised a fresh alarm over the incessant kidnap of their colleagues.

Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, the chairman of the State Chapter of the NMA, Dr. Ibifuro Green expressed deep concern the way and the manner in which men of the under world are frequently kidnapping doctors in Rivers State.

Dr. Green observed that in the past 3 months more than five (5) medical doctors have been abducted which he identified as Dr. George, Dr. Adewile Olugbenga, Dr. Jack Ovunda Omodu, Dr. Pearse and several others.

Dr. Green who stressed the importance of medical doctors in any given society, called the security agencies and other relevant authorities to ensure that they beef up security in all the nooks and crannies of the state to check the ever increasing rate of kidnapping.

The Rivers NMA Boss further pleaded with the traditional rulers, political leaders, elders and other well-meaning individuals to prevail on the abductors to leave medical doctors alone.

He however, revealed that, medical doctors will no longer sit down and endure the kidnap of their colleagues, adding that if Dr. Omodu is not released within 24 hours, the Rivers NMA would take far reaching decisions that may not augur well with the entire society. ###
