Nnam Obi Calls For Peaceful Elections In ONELGA

The Oba (Eze-Ogba) of Ogbaland and former Chairman, Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, His Eminence, Sir (Dr) Chukumela Nnam Obi II (OON, JP) has called on the people of Ogba Land to be peaceful, calm and resist any attempt to be used by desperate politicians to cause confusion during and after the forth coming general elections scheduled for March 28 and April 11 2015.

He advised politicians in the area to guard against the use of uncomplimentary languages and thugs to cause public disturbances, noting that it is an abuse of democracy to make innocent people suffer while political leaders engaged themselves in profane politics.

The Ogba Monarch gave the advice recently during a joint meeting of traditional rulers, chiefs, village heads, opinion leaders, the political class, religious leaders, security agents, youths and women leaders in his palace at Omoku ahead of the general election.

He urged politicians to play the game according to the rules, warning that any political party whose members are found causing confusion will be blacklisted in the area while its candidates will be rejected by the people at the poll.

Oba Chukwumela Obi, called on eligible voters in the area to be law abiding while casting their votes and advised them not to regard election as do or die affairs.

The Royal father who called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials to guard against hoarding of Election materials, appealed to the authorities to provide security personnels at all voting centres to maintain peace and order.

It will be recalled that the Ogba Monarch while receiving various aspirants had admonished them to go about their campaigns peacefully and avoid name callings, incitements and beating of war drums.

Stakeholders at the forum thanked the Oba for arranging the meeting and promised that they will do their best to ensure that all the elections are held peacefully in the area.
