The ancient town of Bille would be agog as the ancient kingdom of old would be welcoming different shades of footballers, shareholders, the football fraternity to its land in commencement of its usual annual Bille District Amateur football Association competition, come 24th, December, 2014.
An interview with The Newswriter sports, Digbani Tams, the sponsor of the tournament revealed that the tournament had lasted up to 34 years and had produced ten (10) players for the Nigeria professional football league last 2013/2014 football season.
He pointed out that Sharks of Port Harcourt harvested 5 players from that competition, Bayelsa United 3 players while Dolphins of Port Harcourt benefitted 2 players from the Bille District Amateur football Association (BDAFA) competition.
Speaking further, Comrade Tams disclosed that the tournament has brought unity and peace to the ancient kingdom of Bille while also confirming that lots of footballers discovered from the tournament are playing in foreign lands (Europe), Tams believes that one day players discovered from the tournament will play a prominent role in the national teams.
The amiable soft spoken Tams is an ex-international who started playing football in the 70s and early 80s while in primary school, has intense passion for football, hence today he is a household name in the football family.
He is the patron of Sharks Football Club Supporters club and Obior/Akpor Referees Association.
The Delga Local government ex-international footballer could be described as a grassroots soccer promoter, philanthropist and encourager of football talents.
According to comrade Tams, on the average, the competition registered nine (9) teams while some years, it gets to (12) twelve teams.
For the passion he has for football and as an ex-international who started playing football when he was ten (10) years old, he finds it interesting to assist any interesting footballer found in the football direction. And pray others to create that enabling environment for such budding hidden football talents to be discovered for encouragement, by floating grassroots tournaments. By so doing, Nigeria will boast of lots of football talents, across the world. ###
